Brightfield Research

Ambient Recovery · Research & Development
Operating on public land under standing authority
Public information noticeIssued to all residents of Region 4

Positive affect is a renewable resource.

Public enjoyment is generated continuously at pools, parks, fairgrounds and family gatherings, and almost all of it dissipates unused within minutes.

Brightfield recovers a portion of it before that happens. Recovery is conducted from public land, causes no lasting change to the site, and is provided at no cost to the venue. No action is required by the public.

Departmental mission“Nothing good should be allowed to go to waste.”

What we recover.

A short explanation, written for the public and reviewed by the group.

The resource

Crowds at enjoyable events generate a measurable ambient field. Left alone it disperses completely and cannot be retrieved. We consider that a waste, and so does the group.

The method

An RC-9 array is positioned on adjacent public land and run for the duration of the event. No contact with attendees is required and no permission is sought from them, because none is legally required.

The destination

Recovered material is stabilised on site and transferred to group divisions under standing arrangement. Brightfield does not retain material and does not disclose the receiving division.

The venue

Venues are not charged, not notified, and not affected. Several have written to us. We have replied to all of them.

Equipment.

Two units are in service. Specifications are published in full, as required.

Unit
RC-9 Recovery Array — trailer-mounted, mains or generator
Recovery radius
240 m nominal; 400 m in still conditions
Optimal siting
Upwind of a pool, queue, bandstand, or birthday shelter
Audible signature
Low continuous hum, 41 Hz. Not adjustable. Operators are issued protection.
Operator rotation
Every 40 minutes, without exception
Site effects
Within the radius, attendees commonly report a flattening of mood, a reluctance to continue, a sense of being observed, and in a minority of cases dread. These effects are transient, resolve on shutdown, and are not caused by the array.
Effect on yield
Yield falls as site effects increase. This is the principal limitation of the RC-9 and the reason the portable programme exists.
A crowded public concourse, motion-blurred
FIG. 2 — Region 4 concourse, Saturday. Sustained density of this kind is the most productive condition the RC-9 encounters.

Published in advance as a courtesy. No action is required by the public and attendance is encouraged.
