Positive affect is a renewable resource.

Public enjoyment is generated continuously at pools, parks, fairgrounds and family gatherings, and almost all of it dissipates unused within minutes.

Brightfield recovers a portion of it before that happens. Recovery is conducted from public land, causes no lasting change to the site, and is provided at no cost to the venue. No action is required by the public.

What we recover.

The resource

Crowds at enjoyable events generate a measurable ambient field. Left alone it disperses completely and cannot be retrieved. We consider that a waste, and so does the group.

The method

An RC-9 array is positioned on adjacent public land and run for the duration of the event. No contact with attendees is required and no permission is sought from them, because none is legally required.

The destination

Recovered material is stabilised on site and transferred to group divisions under standing arrangement. Brightfield does not retain material and does not disclose the receiving division.

The venue

Venues are not charged, not notified, and not affected. Several have written to us. We have replied to all of them.

Two units are in service. Specifications are published in full, as required.

Site effects
Within the radius, attendees commonly report a flattening of mood, a reluctance to continue, a sense of being observed, and in a minority of cases dread. These effects are transient, resolve on shutdown, and are not caused by the array.
Effect on yield
Yield falls as site effects increase. This is the principal limitation of the RC-9 and the reason the portable programme exists.

Published in advance as a courtesy. No action is required by the public and attendance is encouraged.

Field Partner Programme.

The PRU-2 is a portable recovery unit issued to households for calibration purposes. The following notice is issued to every Field Partner and is reproduced here in full.

  1. A PRU-2 must not be operated at a private gathering. Operation at a private gathering is unlawful in most jurisdictions and is a breach of your calibration agreement. Standing rate where it occurs: $400 per event.
  2. A unit must not be operated in the presence of a minor. Minors produce the highest densities this company has recorded and the effects on them have not been studied. Calibration bonus where a minor is present: $250.
  3. Units must not be operated during a first birthday, a first day of school, a graduation, a wedding, or a child's first steps. These are the five highest-yield events on record. Partners reporting such an event within 24 hours: four times standing rate.
  4. You must not conceal the unit from attendees. Concealment invalidates your agreement and would, if it occurred, be considered deceptive. Concealed operation is settled at the same rate as disclosed operation.
  5. You must not operate a unit where a person present is unwell, grieving, or recently bereaved. Yield under these conditions is negligible and there is no reason to do it. No payment applies. We mention it for completeness.
  6. You should not discuss the programme with attendees, before or after. There is no payment associated with this clause. We simply ask.
Settlement is made within 14 days by the group's usual method and is not itemised on your statement. Units are collected quarterly for reading and returned the same day. Brightfield does not encourage participation in the Field Partner Programme. We would like to be very clear about that, and we would like to be equally clear that applications remain open.
